Former Olympian and reality show star, Bruce Jenner, has made headlines news around the world for his interview with Diane Sawyer last week. Jenner finally discussed his decision to transition into a woman after months of speculation from the media. (For those seeking help for any issues check out Amen Clinics Facebook page)
Jenner’s ex-wife, Linda Thompson, has shared her thoughts about the story, claiming she had no idea Jenner wanted to identify as a woman when she married him. However, she admits he talked to her about several years into the marriage.
Thompson married Jenner in the early 1980’s, and was Jenner’s second wife with who he had two children with. Understandably, this has been a difficult transition for Jenner’s extremely large family, but everyone, including Thompson, has been amazingly supportive of Jenner.
In response to Jenner confirming his transition Thompson said, “If Bruce had told me about his gender issue when we first began getting romantically involved, I would not have married him,” Thompson writes. “Pure and simple. But looking back, I’m so grateful to God, the universe, and Bruce that I didn’t know, and that Bruce played the role in my life that he did.”
Jenner’s bravery and candidness is contributing to major changes in people’s opinion and perspective of the entire transgender community. Jenner has given a voice to people who have been culturally shamed into not talking about these issues.
